I want to restore a file "/etc/exclude.mksysb" from one client to a different client. the ssid # is 2685260614. I want to restore the file to a specific directory, "/mksysb/tmp"
my networker server name is: legatos

This is what I have tried but it errors out:

recover -d epcbkuppl01:/mksysb/tmp -s legatos -S 2685260614 /etc/exclude.mksysb

is my syntax wrong?

There are several ways to achieve that - the easiest way would be to start 'nwrecover &' on the destination client and use the visual mode.

If you use the recover command, once again, start it on the destination client. Then it is your choice to use the interactive or the non-interactive/direct mode:
- Interactive Mode (needs a browsable save set): recover -s <server> -c <source_client>
then use 'help' for further info

- Non-Interactive Mode (any save set): recover -s <server> -d <dest_directory> -S <ssid> -a <absolute_pathname>
as you obviously tried that, please modfy your command as follows and start it on epcbkuppl01:
recover -d /mksysb/tmp -s legatos -S 2685260614 -a /etc/exclude.mksysb

Please also read the recover manpage...
