Hello all, I have a project I am working on. I have been restoring po's from backup tapes and trying to pull old email for users. I have run into an issue where if a user had a password on the email account I am unable to access it. I have been using GWcheck to reset the client options and been able to do some but I still have a handfull that I am not able to access. Basically I restore the PO to a directory on a server and point my client to the directory and login with the user name. I have even tried restoring the domain as well as the PO but there are still a handfull in which I cannot get into, any ideas....

Thanks all,

I'm don't know which version of GW you're on. If it's 6.x you can create a 'restore' area in C1 that can be accessed from the client. This is neat bc you can give your users the ability to restore their own mail.
In older versions I beleive you do need to restore the domain for the PO as well as the PO if you're doing this as a flat-file restore to a new location (GW prior to 6) The wpdomain.db & ngwguard.db need to be there as well as the user.db IIRC. I always just restore the whole shebang anyhow.. (old habits!)
If you need to change a user PW to get into an account, connect to the domain you restored from tape, make the pw change, then do a rebuild on that domain database - this will push out the change, as an agent would on a running system. I've not done this for a password change, but have done it for other settings. You probably also want to flag the restored PO to allow direct connect. Then run the client (with the switch) against the flat files, archive the mail and restore it.
This should work I think..

I just had to restore emails from a backup tape and had a hard time to getting it to work in the end I found a great pdf file which should hopefully help.

Look here for more info

Best thing is tha the free chapter is GW restore :)
