Just looking for ideas here. The Lawyers want a certain users email from months ago but we cannot restore to the live network. We have built a test network with the same naming conventions with the same Tree name and OU that contains the PO, I also have built a groupwise system that should be the same version as our production network. Do I have to restore the Domain or can I just put the PO back in the Tree? Is there a source of info that I am missing? Where can I go to find documentation on this type of problem?

Ahhh lawyers ... gota love'em Had to do this a few times my self. This can be done no matter what version of GroupWise you are running.

All you do is restore your PO directory, then point a client to it in DIRECT mode. You do not need to have the POA or MTA agent running. You do not need to restore the domain. Passwords may be tricky, but workable, it just take more steps and time to get around mailbox passwords. When I had to get around passwords I basicly built a replica of the client mail server to restore both the PO and DOMAIN and NDS databases; then I was able to get into NWAdmin and clear the users password. Maybe someone else in the forum has a better idea on how to get around the password.

This Novell TID may also be usefull.

Why do user go into a panic when a NetWare server goes down, but accept it as normal when a Windows server goes down?
