hello,
system on a network with a win2k DC
user on the system user.domain
took system off network (no DC)
same user on system user (no .domain under docs and settings)
transferred data over to new user profile - no prob, everything works fine.
about 3 months later decide the 2 gigs of space is being wasted and decide to delete the old profile. Using my computer > properties > user profiles > delete (recognized it as an unknown profile - anyone know why this is?)
All fine, except somehow when setting up the new profile had outlook point to the old .pst file. So e-mail had been updating on the old .pst file and not the transferred copy.
I just lost 3 months of e-mails/calendars/attachments and I'm in a whole world of hurt.
Data recovery tools see the old folder there, but do not see any of the contained data.
I'm figuring due to windows security it is completely gone, but I still have a sliver of hope. Plenty of space on the disk and not a lot of activity has occurred (swapfile is 1.2 gig though and could have chomped some "free" space)
Pretty much an inexcusable error for a techie, but I'm hoping the wise techie gestalt here can help.
Any suggestions?
JT
