I have a brand new laptop, and its the first time I have used it for upgrades on the 3300.

I have upgraded 100's of 33's before without a hitch.

Last night I was upgrading a 3300 via the SW tool. [I normally do things manually]. I entered in my ftp username and PW and it accepted it and found the level of SW I was upgrading to [R9 UR2 PR2].

However when it rebooted the 3300 "loading" appeared and hung out then it said error could not find file 0x3c and kept rebooting. I tried things manually and still the same. Just to get things working quickly I got the 3300 to act as the FTP server and upgrade was done OK.

However... When I tried to restored the DB [did this manually from the browser] i clicked on restore and nothing happened at all, no pop up, nothing on the maintenance port. I rebooted both the 3300 and laptop with no success. So in the end I transferred the backup file to a remote server and did the process successfully from there.

So - I have just managed to have a look at this new laptop. I tried connecting to it's FTP server locally via Filezilla with no success. So I deleted IIS and reinstalled it, created a new account for FTP, added it into Administrators group, allowed all anonymous connections, kicked off Filezilla again and viola - it worked. So dodgy FTP install on my laptop....

I am pretty confident that my laptop would do an upgrade fine now that I have correctly installed and configured FTP, however I cannot test for obvious reasons [no lab etc].

My question to you guys is why did my data restore fail? Is the process some how linked to my FTP server on my laptop, hence it not allowing the 3300 to receive the file? I think its doubtful. I wish I could test this out, because I think I might be caught out again!

I have it all the time if i restore my laptop
I do not know why but it is the first thing i test before an upgrade !

It looks to me that the firewall on your laptop isn't configured right, and blocks the ftp-session form the mitel.
I have had rebooting controllers due to not getting the files from my laptop, even when ftp was enabled in de firewall, after stopping the firewall temporarily it always worked fine.

That is a possiblity - I am using windows firewall. I just checked it and it doesnt have FTP added as an exclusion.

Just added port 21 to Windows Firewall's excpetions and labelled it up as FTP.

Anything else I should look at?

Be sure that you have IIS installed with FTP services and that FTP passwords match. Check to be sure firewall is off.
