Please help..

I accidentally overwrote some important tables in SQL2K. I immediately made copies of the MDF and the log files for the databases. Is there any way I can use these files to recover the original data?

In dire need,

Fred

I'm thinking that those copies are not going to be much help to you. i.e. what you really want are backup files, made prior to overwriting the tables.

Too bad the overwriting wasn't part of a transaction, then you could have rolled back the changes.

I think there are some 3rd party tools to read the log (is Lumigent? Log Explorer? one of them??). Perhaps this type of tool, in addition to reading the log, would have helped you undo committed changes. (Not sure about that)

I'm definitely no expert in the recovery area at all, so I hope someone else reading this forum will confirm or correct this for us.
