Hello. On my domain, I have a W2K ADC, which was recently upgraded from NT4, and a NT4 BDC. There is a problem with the ADC: it has a disjointed DNS namespace. I understand that the only way to correct this is to uninstall AD, then change the server name to its full DNS domain name, then reinstall AD.

This process will cause me to lose all of the user account info on the ADC. What is the simplest way to restore the user account data, once I have reinstalled AD, and this server is once again an ADC?

Thanks,

J. Bedsole

If you are 100% sure that you cannot fix the DNS Namespace problem (netdiag /fix) (possiblity) then you could use the AD Modify tool (which usually works great) to export the users and then use it to bring them back in.
