For unknown reason, I have lost the active desktop feature in windows. When I log on the following error message appears "the file 'Show Desktop.scf' on (unknown)is needed".

Also, when I right click on the taskbar all of the features are grayed out. The only option available to me under Folder Options, General Tab, is 'Classic'. The others are grayed out. Also the "Show Desktop" icon is missing from the desktop.

I ran the System File Checker and the Internet Explorer Repair Utility and everything checked out. How can I restore these functions to Windows 98?

In spite of the discrepancies windows, runs great.

Please post this in the Windows 98 forum if you haven't already. By the way, I'd start by doing an updated virus scan, and reinstalling video drivers if the problem persists. Again, post this in the 98 forum.

Thank you for your response. I finally gave in and reinstalled Windows 98 after exhausting other attempts to salvage my programs. I ran a virus scan and my system was clean. My video drivers were so corrupt,I couldn't salvage windows. Thanks again.
