Restoring a SQL 6.5 database

I backed up a SQL 6.5 database using the SQL agent and BE 7.3. I now want to restore it to the same server after a RAID5 failure (2 drives went out together) and rebuild. I didn't back up the original devices, just the databases via the agent. Now I'm seeing articles at Veritas claiming that I need the devices. I think it's ridiculous to have to back up the same data twice.

In any case, every time I try and do a restore, the restore fails right around 53%. I've tried from several different backup tapes, with and without running a DBCC inside BENT. No luck. Is there anyone who does this routinely that could give me some direction?

I'm not sure if this is related, but when restoring a SQL database to a rebuilt machine, problems are encountered as the machine uses different SID's to what it did prior to the failure. You may find it easier to manually restore the database, which will require the original model, master & msdb databases to be restored. See Microsoft Knowledgebase Article 304692. Hope this helps.
