Restoring a mksysb from tape takes very long

When restoring a mksysb from tape instead of 20'-30' it takes more than 4 hours. I use an internal 20Gb tape unit and 8mm 170m 20/40Gb tape cartridge. Sometimes I've the same problem restoring a tar with block size different than 0 (zero).
 
FWIW - if you are booting from the mksysb tape you are, in actuality, reconstructing the ENTIRE system. This process attempts to make the system disk(s) look like the image stored on the tape. Depending on the size (data storage) of your system and resulting mksysb tape, it could take considerable time.

Also - if this is what you still wish to do, try setting your tape drive block size to 512 prior to starting to see if that makes any difference (might not depending on how you are restoreing). I have found that a block length of 0 (variable length) take much longer on our systems.
