I have to restore a deleted mailbox. I have recreated the user mailbox as named on the backup tape, firstname surname and as directed in veritas technote article ID 231341. I am however unable to restore the mailbox.

Article 231431 references upto V8.0 but I can find no article specific to v8.6, I assume the same theories and processes apply in essence. I am logged in as the administrator at the moment and am about to log in as the actual backup exec logon account in a moment and try running the backup again. The newly recreated mailbox definately exists and is active as I have sent a mail to it and if I try and run a test backup right now I can select the newly re-created mailbox that I am trying to restore too.

I am a little stumped at the moment, if this final attempt at a restore does not work I am going to have to restore to an alternative mailbox and then copy the data over, I would like to be able to restore the mailbox as specified and thats why I'm here asking anyone if they have ever managed to successfully restore a deleted mailbox on v8.6

Any help, tips, suggestions appreciated.

Cheers

This problem had me stumped for a while but I managed to figure this out see below for instructions which I sent to my IS mates.

Hope it helps.b

Check the 'Restore selection' of Veritas, and make a note of the name and alias of the original mail box.

Create a new mail box using the above information.

Now if you check the 'Backup selection' on Veritas under the mail box choices you will not see the newly created mail box, even if you refresh the screen.

The restore will not work until Veritas can see the mail box.

Send a e-mail to the new mail box.

Again check the 'Backup selection' and do a refresh and as if by magic the missing mail box will appear.

Now you can do the restore of the mail box.

I am afraid that I have already tried what you suggest without success. I have e-mailed Veritas and hope for some sort of a response.

As you state I recreated the mailbox with the correct name and alias, I activated by sending a mail to it and read the message, I am going to respond to the message from the mailbox although I see this making no difference what-so-ever. Veritas BE v8.6 sees the mailbox if I run a test restore.

Confused at the moment

Cheers
