hi,

Is there a way, that I can restore a backup from legato from one networker server to another? I only have the tape from the old server but I dont know what pool is it. Like my networker server A is decomissioned and I have a networker server B. Is there a way that I can read and restore the data on the tape from server A to B? also the client is also decomissioned.

Thanks for the help.

You can scan the tapes in on the new server (using the scanner command) and should then be able to restore the data to an alternate client (will need to be the same o/s client though).

tim,

when I run scanner it's giving me an I/o error.

# scanner /dev/rmt/0cbn

scanner : SYstem error, tape label read I/O error.
scanner : scanning for valid records.
scanner : read: -1 bytes: I/O error.
scanner : cannot continue.

Any Idea.

a guess is either maybe the backup was done at a higher format than the current drive supports, or your tape is stuffed. if the client is decomm'd maybe you can grab the tape drive off it and connected it up to see if this is the problem (if it isnt the same as the new one)
