I have tried to do a restore and the restore job can't even mount the tape needed for the restore job even after 1 hour(though none of the tape drives are currently being used). I am using version 8.6 and using windows.

Thanks,
Enoch

Need more info...
1. Is the tape listed in your catalog?
2. Have you tried to Inventory the tape before accessing it?
3a. What does the job log say as the job goes nowhere?
3b. Does it ever get to the point of saying something like "searching for backup set"?
4. What version of Windows, i.e., W2KserverSP4, XPpro SP2, etc.
5. What tape deck and SCSI controller?
6. Did it ever work?

1. The tape is listed in the catalog.

2. I've set it up so that backup exec does an inventory when it starts.

3. The job status says loading media.

4. I'm using windows 2KserverSP4
5. I'm using DLT8000 tapes and a DLT8000 tape drives.

6. Restores have worked in the past.

Not sure, but I'm leaning towards bad tape and/or dirty tape heads. I assume that you've already rebooted both the server and the deck. Try a cleaning job and another tape. If that doesn't help... I'm out of ideas.

I know this can happen, if the drive is "hung" of a scsi connector on your RAID card....

BE needs a dedicated SCSI card to operate efficiently.

Cheers.

Thanks for all of your help. The library is rather old(ADIC Scalar 100) and the tape drives aren't working all that great.
