We backup to tape a SQL database (30GB) over the network using Veritas 8.6. This is a flat file backup created by SQL 2000.
I cannot restore it back from tape to any server on the network. I have tried from three different backup servers. The first server gave up after 2 GB. Some tweaks to drivers, SCSI settings etc caused it to blue screen when I tried the restore. The second server blue-screened after 4GB (every time) of the file was restored.
Our new backup server (1.8 P4, 1GB RAM) shuts down immediately the restore job starts. All the drivers are up to date, as are the BIOS for the SCSI card and tape drive. I have played with the SCSI card speed settings.
Is this a memory issue? Should I be able to restore this file over the network? I can copy the file over the network, so I could restore locally (which works, as long as there is disk space) then copy it, but the boss has told me this is not the way!
Veritas are as baffled as I am. Thanks in advance.
