I restored a backup of a root drive to a new disk on Solaris 8 which contained a fully functioning disksuite 4.2.1 mirror configuration. The backup is from an identical system and OS. I want to install a second identical disk and recover the mirror configuration. The root disk is up but functioning as a single drive because I restored the original non-disksuite vfstab and system files.

What do I need to do to reactivate disksuite and begin mirroring. The md.tab file is empty and below is the md.cf file.

This was the command I used to create the replicas originally.

metadb -a -f -c3 c0t0d0s7 c0t1d0s7

If I can't recover, can I just start over?

Thanks you very much.

csgonan. I would probably delete the meta devices you have set up for your root partitions and recreate them. Once this is done, the root partition's mirror will be created and written to. Then modify your vfstab to use the metadevice for boot up. You also should create a devalias to your mirrored drive and add this alias to the NVRAM entry boot-device. This way, if your original root partition fails, the system will be able to boot using the mirror.

Thank you very much. I will take your advice.
