Had ACS R3, got cooked, replaced with R6 but could not do a
restore. Came up 'empty file.'
I had auto backup set and had no message at ext. 10 to indicate there was a problem with the card.
The ACS had no power for at most 12 hrs, but the ASA pc and R5 4 port VS mail was not affected.

Bad backup/ restore card? Any Ideas?

Thanks.

you can not restore from a R.3 backup to a another release than 3

Hi 1864,
You really need to stick that card into another R3 as cvrbob stated. Failing that, you will need to reprogram by hand. Did you have the translation saved to a computer?

Thanks for the replies.
I never had to do a restore before and assumed the translations would carry over to a different release. I dont remember ever seeing it stated in the manuals that it had to be same release. Why replace a 7 yr. old R3 with a R3? I had the R6 and reprogrammed everything from scratch.
At least I had good records so it wasnt that big of a pain. Maybe a good feature for the R8 to accept past backup/ restore card translations? It would only make sense since if you replace an old processor you could upgrade at the same time with less hassle.
Thank's again

Hi 1864,
Most of use who work with the Legend / Magix wonder about this oversight. The though is that you have a working unit that you upgrade to the target release using it's upgrade-one-time / restore card. Save the translation to the new card and move it to the new system. This works great unless you have a dead processor and no other same release units to work with.

One would think that the reason for this is that there are differences between the releases. Consider though that if you upgrade that R3 to an R6 all the translations will be retained.

So there is your answer- upgrade to the same release as the new processor, make a backup then use that to restore to the new processor.[pipe]

That only works if the orig. processor is good. We should be able to update the translation Magix - wise. Put that in my wish list.
