Hi:

We are running AS7 NetWare Enterprise Edition on a NetWare 5.11 SP6 machine to backup several NetWare 5.1 servers, Win2k & WinNT servers.

The problem started when we applied the 2/04 NET - CUMULATIVE PATCH QQO33421.CAZ, we also applied the Push Agent patch, QO33425.CAZ to our Novell servers.

The first symptom was that the backup jobs would hang sometimes when they hit the servers with the push agents. So we unloaded the agents and the jobs would go through.

However, now when we try to submit a Restore job for files on any of our Novell servers (including the Arcserve server), we get a "E0226 Unable to authenicate to server <Backup Server> Status -1".

The strange part is that we can submit backup jobs for our Win2k servers and no errors occur.

Any ideas?

Thanks

When submitting your restore job, ensure that when specifying Security (ie. the username/password that Arcserve uses to attach to the servers), make sure that you type in the full distinguished name of the user object eg. .USERNAME.ORGANIZATIONALUNIT.ORGANIZATION

As far as the backup problems go, ensure that your backups are backing up long filenames as disabling the agent often causes the backups to backup in 8.3 format. For servers that hang when connecting to the agent, go to the server in question and perform the following tasks:

a) At the server console, unload NWAGENT
b) At the server console, unload TSA500 & TSANDS
c) Delete SYS:ETC\SMS\SMDR.CFG
d) Using NetWare Administrator, delete the object called "SERVERNAME SMS RPC" (where SERVERNAME is the name of the server
e) At the server console, type SMDR NEW
f) Answer No to disable NDS, press Return twice to select the default server context, type in the full distinguished username and the password of a user that has write rights to that context, answer No to disable SLP, No to disable SAP and answer No to disable name resolution using SYS:ETC\HOSTS
g) SMDR should now be loaded. Load TSA500 and TSANDS. Reload NWAGENT and try your backups again

Recreated the SMS RPC objects already for all the Novell servers, also recreated the Backup Job Queue objects and used the ASUTIL nlm to delete and recreate the ArcServe Queue and User object. Still have the same problems.

I've found other users on this forum with the push agent problem. They resolved them by back reving to an earlier version. I wonder if I'll have to back rev the server version to get the restores to work?

Thanks
