Hello everyone:

One of my NT4 server is died. I have tried ERD repair and no good. Now I reinstalled NT4 OS on it. I have full tape backup include registry from last Friday. Can I restore everything from the tape? or I have to reinstall all the applications one by one? Please help!

Thanks you!

Full restore (from the full backup) should bring your box to its original state - unless there is something in the registry which caused a problem in the first place (highly unlikely, though). You should install a backup software (unless you used ntbackup on the "old" box) with which the tabe was created.

If the HW configuration of the box hasn't changed, you should have no problems restoring it.

One more thing: try to stop all the running services you possibly can before running the restore.

Good luck.

Yeah - restoring a full backup means you MUST have the EXACT same hardware config, and registry entries. Be careful with this one...

If it's a new server, reinstall the apps, and just restore the data. It's not worth having to go back & reconfigure a buggy server. It's much better to take the time to do a clean install whenever you can on a server. They usually don't get the TLC that they need..
