We are trying to restore a file from a backup tape, which we have done before on numerous occasions. For some reason, when we select the file to be restored and run the job, nothing seems to happen. The job queue shows the job as ready, but it does not run. We have checked the time to run etc and it should run immediately. I am in seroius trouble on this one and would appreciate any help.
Thanks.

Since you haven't specified what version of Arcserve you are running and on what platform, it is difficult for us forum-helpers to give you advice.

However, have you tried rebooting the server in question? Have you made any changes (ie Service Packs) to it recently? Have you installed any Arcserve patches?

Very sorry, I agree I should have given more details.
The version of Arcserve is 6.6
The platform is Novell Netware 5.1.

We hadn't tried any service packs, but due to the problem we have installed sp2000.1 for Arcserve. This has not resolved the problem. We have rebooted the server, tried different tapes, tried to restore different files but nothing seems to work. The backups appear to run successfully, so it is very confusing as to why the restore will not work when it always used to. The only change that we have made is to change the admin password on the Novell server, but as stated the backups still seem to work so I don't know if this is misleading.
Many thanks.
Paul

If I understand you correctly, you can create the restore job and send it to the server where it shows as ready but it never goes active. You have checked time & date to run (which the default is the time & date job is created). At this point logins or which tape is loaded is not relevant until the job actually starts (goes Active). When that job is sitting in the Arcserve Scheduler module at the server console goto View Job Queue/Statistics (showing restore job in Ready status) press enter (with restore job highlighted) and check execution date & time, if they still look correct change the execution date to a date in the past (like last month, double check the year) then press F2 to save it. Watch to see if it goes active.

If job still doesn't go to active, try a manual restore. At the main Scheduler screen chose Restore NetWare Server, put in username (with appropriate rights) and password > press F2 to login. Arrow down to [Destination] Restore Path: press <insert>, walk the path until you get where you want and press F5 to mark it. esc back, fill in report file name, press F2. See if anything happens in Job Queue window.

Let us know.

Good luck,

Mark ;-)

Mark,

Thanks a million, you have got me out of serious trouble. I set the restore job to run and as normal it just sat there. I changed the date back as you stated and the job turned to active and the restore worked. I don't understand why, because I never used to change the time, I always restored immediately, but now it has worked at least we know a fix.

Thanks again

Paul :) :)
