I want to restore a system with rootvg mirrored across 2x 33g internal drives, onto a p5 LPAR with 17g mirrored disks. The source system's disks have 16.5gb used, so that should fit onto the 17g. Can you please provide what needs to be changed in the image.data file on the source machine to get the mksysb image to fit onto the smaller disks ?

no problem. you can also select 'shrink filesystem' befire the installation process begins (eg. using tape or bootable dvd with mksysb or NIM)

of course in customized image.data you can change LPs / PPs numbers and PP size numer for rootvg if you have to (eg. if you would like to isntall you mksysb without NIM - using alt_disk_mksysb or directly without mksysb disk-disk using alt_disk_install)

btw. customizing image.data you can even migrate jfs fiesystems to jfs2 using alt_disk_install or alt_disk_mksysb method (in the case of jfs->jfs2 migration, after the installation completes you need to wake up the alt_rootvg and correct /etc/filesystems so there are jfs2 filesystems before you boot cloned system)
