Will it work?

At least using alt_disk_mksysb method doesn't work. System doesn't boot.

Hello

Could you explain exactly your problem?
If you;re trying to do a restore from an AIX mksysb backup there is no issue to do it on either Power5 or Power6.

Give more details about your problem.

Cheers
Al.

when I get mksysb made on power5 system and then 'alt_disk_mksysb' it on target power5 system it finshes without any problem and I can boot from the drive where 'alt_rootvg' was created.

when I do the same, with the same mksysbbut on target system which is P6 system alt_disk_mksysb finshes without any problems as well, bootlist is set to the drive pointing to the 'alt_rootvg' but when I reboot system it never starts - hangs on:

AIX Version 5.3
Starting NODE#000 physical CPU#001 as logical CPU#001... done.

I think this is due to driver issues. What you could try is keep the disks on the server. Boot with AIX 5.3 CD/DVD and do a migration installation. You will loose /tmp. All necessary drivers will be installed. However you may have to install non IBM drivers
