Hello,

When I try to restore a mksysb from another system, I get the following error:

PREP-BOOT could not open deblocker.

The original system was an aix 433 SP-Thin node and the target system is a aix 433 F50.

Anybody can help?
Thanks in advance,
Rudy

Rudy,

I take it that you are booting of a mksysb tape and doing a restore?

If you are boot off the AIX cd instead and go into advanced maintenance functions and select restore from system backup.

If you are using NIM then what is the LED code on the F50?

Hello,

We have updated the microcode to the latest level, but still no go, The Led code while booting from tape is E14D and then the msg appears: PreP-BOOT: could not open deblocker, and boots further on hdisk0.
We have also tried to restore from the advanced maintenance menu, but that doesnt work either.

What else can it be?

Greetings,
Rudy

Hello
Is the System Level on the Disk higher then the mksysb ?

Take a test with:
Booting from CD-AIX into the Installation Menu. ( to load al defined devices )
And then restore the mksysb from the Tape.-System Maintenace, Restore from a System Backup, Shrink Filesystems=yes

What we also have done is changed the image.data on the original system, because the rootvg was there on 2 volumes (hdisk0 and hdisk1) and on the target system we have only 1 volume, so we deleted the hdisk1 entries in image.data and created a mksysb with option new image.data= no

I'm going now to test with the shrink filesystems=yes.

Greetings,
Rudy

Rudy,

If you have been editing the image.data then you have possibly removed something required. Perhaps just change the number of copies to 1 for each logical volume and change the PP's to match the LP's i.e. 1-1 in the image.data file and take a new mksysb.

Just another thing to try.

Rudy,

I have just also thought, if you have removed the references to hdisk1 did you also reduce the number if LP copies to 1? I would follow my suggestion above, that is all I have ever changed and it has always worked for me.

Hi All,

I did make a mksysb again with the changed image.data and then restarted the target system with cd as boot device and restored from mksysb (tape) and now it works!

So Thanks for all your help!

Greetings,
Rudy
