Has anyone successfully restore 5.2 mksysb to a 5.1 system ..We are having problem the mksysb restores then at one point it begans to go into a loop .It kicks-out many messages pertaining to the ODM devices ..If you have successfully restore let me know what you did to get it to work ............... Also this is 6h1 going to a S85 ....

Try cloning it since its going to a different machine type, that should take care of your problem... Make sure to use same level media as your 5.2 mksysb..

Hello FrankieAix

I don't understand could you give more detail .....

To clone do the following:

1. Place CD #1 in your CD-Rom set the bootlist to cd0:

#bootlist -om normal cd0

2. After the system boots off of the CD Select Start Maintenance Mode for System Recovery

3. Select Install from System Backup

4. Select the tape drive that contains your backup and its a normal Mksysb restore from this point on...

What happens is you boot off of the CD-ROM and while the system restores it pulls the necessary filesets that are needed to make your backup work on the different hardware type.. After about a hour depending on how big your mksysb is you will come back to login prompt and should be good to go..

Let me know if you need anymore help

===> Alexhu the S80/S85 will support 5.2...

I did the clone and that went well ..... But when the system reboots it start spilling out garbage .... I let it do that for about 20 min .. Now the box is dead .... Do you have any idea what would cause that... Note : On my mksysb when completed it gave this message " The boot image you just created might fail to boot because the size exceeds the system limits .... I have all set to "unlimited " ..
Thanks
