Hi All

Is it possibe and how, to restore a users mail box and folders etc from the priv.edb.

Please HELP !!

There is a court case comomg up and this guy needs to access old mails but they where deleted and I need to restore his old folders off a backup tape..........

Thanks All

natively, the only way is to restore the entire database to a "duplicate" server, and then extract the emails. if you willing to spend money, there's a 3rd party tool called Ontrack Power Controls that can read the database offline and extract the info for you easily.

As Bronto said, you can create a replica exchange server (NT server name can be different). Don't join an existing site when installing exchange, but create a new site, with the same name as the original. Then resore the priv.edb, run a consistency check and then access the mailbox in question. There is documentation on the MS knowledge base.

I'm not quite sure how it works, but If you are using Veritas' Backup Exec or something similar with the exchange server option, the software gives you the ability to restore individual mailboxes. Otherwise, as stated before, you will have to restore the entire private information store to a replica server.
