Have a merlin magic 4.0 ver7 and have some issues with it and have another magic 4.0 ver 7 and want two swap them. have backed up the programming and when I go to restore the programming on the new processor I keep getting invalid file. this is a ams backup file save thru spm software 4.0
have try this several time with no luck. would not think I have to convert this file if the processor are the same type and rel. any suggestion. and would it be eailer to back up from the flash card if I restore from the orginal magic.

Sometimes you need to default the processor, and restore the file in surrogate mode (no other cards in the carrier).

Other times, I have had to set the new processor to the same mode (Key or PBX), the same numbering plan (2/3/setup space) and operator positions.

Could also be the programming port not being the same (one of the 1st five ports)

Default the new processor prior to restoring the programming because if it has old programming on it (different cards mismatched) it will come back as invalid.

have defaulted card and pull all cards out of cabinet except processor, still on the restore it come back with invalid file. no errors codes just invalid file. to the right of the file shows the file size and other items so I know the file i try to open is good. the orginal problem with the processor is that it will not call fwd out of the system or transfer to voicemail after 3 rings. this happen several week ago, have ck all programming and restarted system a number of times. system has been working for a number of years. no errors store in system on any cards and voicemail is merlin messageing and works on auto attendant and direct transfer but does not work after hours or follow the coverage to voicemail after 3 rings. processor is my first choice for trouble shooting if I can restore the new processor with the exiting programming.

I NEVER assume the processor is the problem to start with.

The problem is almost ALWAYS the PROGRAMMING of the processor or some hardware failure somewhere in the system.

However, if you just absolutely must replace the processor, try doing it in SURROGATE mode with NO MODULES installed.

But perhaps before that you will want to VERIFY through the *05 test that both processors are the same.

have many hours checking programming and looking for hardware issues. need to elimante a software processor issue first at least and the processor is my first choice. I have gone into maintance under inventory and got the release of the processor and got another one with the same release. this *05 is this a feature code *05 or something else and what does it tell you.
thanks

a system setup printout would help...maybe fresh pairs of eyes could spot something.

I've never encountered a Legend or Magix processor that would mess with a feature or programming on its own. Unless
you program the system from scratch...any programming issue
will carry itself over in a backup file....changing the
processor will not solve your problem.

Seems ya'll were right, voicemail had two of the 6 ports shut down on it for some reason even after I rebooted this system a couple of times. also a change in the hunt to rotary in the voice mail setup seem to clear issues. how it change on its own is the question of the hour for me. thanks for the input

A possible cause, transient power surges. Is the system grounded and bonded properly, according to Avaya's installation documents? Surges and other power imbalances can cause all kinds of mysterious things to happen in any system. Over time these types of conditions can degrade components until they "can't take it anymore" and fail! Then we are all standing around wondering what happened! "But it has been working and no one has touched it!"

Transient power surges, the invisible curse...
