I want to restore a GW PO from a tape backup to a disk located on a windows 2003 server....is this doable?

yes, just redirect the files to the desired location in your backup software.

You can use the client to connect directly to the PO files only if the PO was setup to accept direct connections. If it is client server only, then you will need to get an agent running to access them.

Easier to setup a restore location in your groupwise (6 and above)

we do have GW. I re-directed the files contained in the folder named PO, then I assigned that folder as a restore area, and assigned my self as a member. When I went to look at my backup DB from GW Client, there were no emails in my mailbox or in any of the cabinet folders. Any ideas why?

When you access the Restore Area, it only shows things that are Different from your main mailbox. So if they are the same, it appears to be empty. You can test this theory like this.. in your main mailbox, delete some non-important messages that you believe 'should' be on the backup.

Then go to the restore area and see if they display.
