Im running AIX 4.3.I've attempted to restore a specific file from tape from both the command line and SMITTY. To no avail

I use the command
'restore -xdvqf /dev/rmt0 /directory/filename' at the command line. (I've tried restoring from the same dir. and the directory above it and the / dir.)
After about 50 min of searching the tape it lets me know
"the number of restored files is 0
the total size of bytes is 0"
I know the file is on the tape, I can see it when I browse the media in Smitty.
Anyone have any idea what else I can try or what I might be doing wrong.
Hi,

The index (that you can see this file on) is written right at the start of the backup job - before the actual file is written, so it's *possible* that the backup job ran out of tape....
Mike
michael.j.lacey@ntlworld.com
<a href= Cargill's Corporate Web Site
Thanks for the response. However, I determined that the folder I was trying to restore to was actively being used. Once the person had logged off and was no longer actively using the folder the restore command was able to restore the file.

Thanks, for responding.

Glad you're sorted -- and thanks for posting the solution.
Mike
michael.j.lacey@ntlworld.com
<a href= Cargill's Corporate Web Site
