We wanted to restore a file from the second of a 2 set tape backup.
We could find the file on the selection list and the restore started correctly, asked us for the second tape and looked good to complete. However we got a message about an error on a seek to a logical media address. No more data is on the tape. This gave us an event id of 57665 in the Event Viewer. The restore then failed.
We knew the file was on the tape as the backup had verified correctly so why wasn't the restore allowing us the file?
So heres the tip.
We couldn't get it to restore the one file so we tried restoring two files, one we knew was on the first tape and also our required file on the second tape. Amazingly this worked and restored both files.
We use V7 on NT4.0
Hope this helps someone as I searched for a while through many threads and found nothing like this anywhere.
