My Exchange server main hard drive crash (system Drive). I had to reinstall Windows 2000 SP4 and Exchange Server 2000 SP3.
I don’t have backup files for the private & public stores (priv1.edb, priv1.stm, pub1.edb and pub1.stm) and log files, but the files were copied to an external drive after the crash.

I do have AD backup. There were only 5 users and I already rebuild the server to the same state it was.

When i try to mount the backup databases they won't mount. I get this error: The database files in this store are inconsistent. ID no:c1041739
I checked the files with eseutil and they seem to be OK. Actually they should be fine because nothing happened to them.

How can I recover the information in this scenario?

Any Help will be greatly appreciated.

What files were copied to the external drive if you do not have backup files for the private and public stores? You pretty much need the bulk of contents in MDBDATA folder (where priv, pub and log files reside)for a restore. What process did you take for getting the "saved" files back into a working directory?

If you had usable priv, pub and log files on the external drive, you need to check the box on the database properties window to allow restore of database-prior to copying the files into the new MDBDATA folder. Then when prompted to over-write the files, say "yes" and your Exchange instalation will recognize the original database as having been restored.
