my database was on the network, I backed it up to my local machine, the network crashed and now I want to restore. I found the zip file and chose a new location to restore to. it runs then says can't find \\......\supplemental files\template is not found do you want to create it? I click yes and then it says Act database was not found in the archive

You need to do the Restore on the server, not from the workstation.

Did you do "Restore As"? You need to do that, especially if the machine name is different.

If those don't help:
How was the zip file created?
What version of ACT!?

The network was down and tus I could not access it. It is back up and and was able to restore with the zip file. However, the database that was on the network when it crashed will not open, it says it was created with a newer version of ACT, but that is not true. The netowrk database has a week of inputs that I don't have the back up since, dummy me, didn't do a backup for a week. Any ideas on opening the network database? Also, for the future, how can I backup form the network and be able to restore without the newtowork being opearble?

THANX!!!!!!!!!!!

1. Make sure you have updated your ACT! with any patches
2. Do a Restore As on the server itself

What version of ACT! are you running? If ACT! 8/9, there is an ACT! Scheduler that you can set to automatically backup your database
