Hey all,

I am trying to restore a server (Drives and system state).
I have rebuilt the box with the OS, and the name and IP and all accounts are the same.

Let me know if I am going about this the wrong way:

I merged the tape I need to restore from, then I selected the C, D, and System state to be restored to their original locations.

The error I got was:
E8531 Request denied by the client agent.

I looked this up on the arcserve site, and they referenced a similar error E8535, where the fix was to create the below key:
"SingleRestoreOrCompare" with a value of "0"

I tried this, and the restore still did not work.

Any Ideas?

Thanks
David

If you're restoring the entire server, you may be going about it the wrong way. If you choose to restore the entire C drive, you'll hit problems with files in use by the OS.

I know of two ways around that. One is to use Disaster Recovery Option, if you've got it. If not, the other way to install the OS to a folder other than WINNT or whatever folder it was installed under. Then boot to that installation of the OS, install the client agent, and run the restore. Keep in mind that doing an entire restore isn't easy, and you may run into problems down the road. A better way to get it working is to rebuild the OS, install the apps, and then restore the data from tape.

As for the error message you're getting, it sounds like a permissions problem. If you try to restore while checking the box to restore it back to the original location, you're not prompted for the username and password. A better way is to actually browse to the server name in the Destination tab, and set the username and password when you right click on the server name.
