Hi,

Running Arcserve 2000 SP4 on a W2k SP3. Just wondering has anyone restored an entire computer with the registry keys to a computer they have backed up. The OS is re-installed but wondering if all we'll need to do is restore all the drive info or do we need to restore all drive info with Registry? I know when restoring Registry from previous experience Arcserve make you select a sub-keys than the root key. This causes different restores jobs than one complete restore. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

The best way to restore a whole system is via a parallel install. Basicly all you need to do is install the OS to a temp location, like c:\winnttemp. Now restore the whole C drive and do not select the restore registry option. The restore registry option replaces the current registry which you don't want to do since it is only temporary anyways. Doing it this why the who C: drive is restored registry and all with no conflicts since the active OS is at a different location.

Microsoft has a document on it. Last time I got a copy it was Q266465 How to Perform a Parallel install of Windows 2000.

You need to do a system state restore

Do you have a backup of the system state?
