I'm new to Linux and I'm trying to set up a Linux File server with Windows XP clients.

I have been playing around with the smb.conf and now I can't seem to get samba to run.

How do I get my smb.conf back to the default. (I know I should have backed it up before messing with it.)

If you delete all lines in smb.conf, Samba will default to everything.
However, it won't work without you naming some shares, etc.
Go look for your notes and figure out what you had before. Or maybe use the smb.conf that you've got and delete things line by line until you get it working again.

If you don't mind paste your smb.conf and we can see if can figure out what is wrong. Otherwise download samba from samba.org and there will be a default smb.conf there.
