I am new to SQL Server Administration. I have a zipped backup of a sql server database sitting on a file server. I need to restore that backup into SQL Server. I am assuming that I unzip the file, move it to the database server then attach the database. Is this correct? I tried to use the wizard to restore database and I am only able to select from two locations which I am assuming are on that database server. I can not select from another location. Is my assumption correct? Thanks!

Yes and Yes.

Move the backup to the server locally and restore it from there. You don't really want to restore a DB over the wire. If ti's any size at all that could take awhile and if your file server isn't that great you could consume it for some time

sandylou,

As it is a backup you have, you won't be able to attach it, but should be able to restore it, as Jeff says.

Thanks - I was able to restore it successfully! :)
