Hi There.

We creating a test network which is completely seperate to our LIVE network. I'd like to test a restore on this new network, but keep getting an E3841 Unable to find Session Number error.
I thought this sort of info was included on the backup tape so it could be used if the Computer Room blew up - We could then restore data on a new network - Am I mistaken?

Thanks for any help offered.

p.s - 11.5 SP4/Windows 2003 SP3

As an update, it continually asks for the tape that is in the new Tape drive, but Sequence 2. So, correct tape label, but no Sequence 2!

As an aside, backups are taken from a Tape Loader using the Multiplexing option. GFS is set to do Full Backup everyday of all servers to one tape.
Restore is attempted on Windows 2003 system (patched to same level) off the network, with Single Tape drive attached.

Bring ARCserve up to date and then try it again. There have been too many fixes since SP3 to bother with it.

It's on SP4 (build 4490) - Windows 2003 is patched to SP3.
Thanks.

I have checked through all tapes (loaded them in HP TapeLoader) and they are all Sequence 1. No idea why it keeps asking for Sequence 2!

Thanks.

I have searched and cannot find any reason why it continually asks for Sequence 2 when trying to restore on a different system. Restores are fine if used on our live network, as I guess it has access to the DB containing job info.
I use a SQL DB for BrightStor and have installed SQL on Test Server, applying all updates (Windows/SQL/Brightstor/Tape Drive) - If anyone has any advice I would be grateful.

Thanks.

A restore will ask for the seq.2 tape when it searches through the seq.1 tape and does not find the requested data.

Run a similar type back on the test network to see if it has the same restore problem.

I have got an update - I assumed because I was on SP4 for BrightStor I was up to date. There is an update for Hardware Devices (SP5 i believe) - Applied this and now I can backup/restore SQL from same server. I will try and do this process from a different server tomorrow.

Thanks.
