Hi, I'm new to ARcserve,
when I try to do the restore by session, I receive the following message:
The selected session has been pruned, do you want to merge the session now?
If I push yes: Please mount media common, serial #IDC7B8, sequence #1

My questions are: Can I click "No" without any problem or this will influence my restore?
For what is useful the "merge" of the session?

Thanks,
Luigi

Hi, if you say no, nothing will happen, your restore just won´t work. You must mount the particular tape, because he must read the information from there. It is no longer in the database.

Ok, but if I try to do the restore by media, choosing a particular mounted media, I don't receive that message. So can I do in this way? It will work correctly?
Thank you very much,
Luigi

If you know what session on what tape has the information you need to restore, then yes you can use RESTORE BY MEDIA withouth merging.

The value in merging, is that you can just select a single directory or file can be selected for restore rather than an entire file system, which is usually what a SESSION encompasses.

Hope that helps :)
