I have backed up a DB that was allocated for 300GB. The DB file has only 80GB of data in it when it was backed up.

I created a DB Shell to restore the backup to. Its initial size is 10MB.

Here is the issue ... when I try to restore the backup, it is wanting to allocate the 300GB for the DB and I do not have enough room for that.

How can I just restore the 80GB of data w/out the restore task trying too allocate the full 300GBs.

Is it something I need to tweak when I created the backup OR is there a parameter/switch I can enable on the restore to accomplish what I desire??? Thanks for the help!!!

Thanks

I'm pretty sure you need to restore the whole 300GB, the RESTORE doesn't know that most of it is blank space.

If you can, start over and shrink the database to get rid of the empty space, then back it up.

Damn Bill ... Not the answer I was hoping for ;)

I figured that was the case, and that was the initial statement I made to the systems engineers this morning. Just wanted to double check! Thanks!

Thanks
