I originally posted this to the windows 2000 group, so sorry if you read this before:

My 2000 machine rebooted several times before eventually loading yesterday morning. Each time before the actual windows started, before the 'verifying the DMI Pool Data ' part.

I gave the disk a scan and a chkdsk and it rebooted fine, thankfully. Would it be the mbr or hardware that's causing it?

More info:

Now I've watched it again this morning, it reboots after every stage of the boot, ie: deteccting drives, pool data, the bar going across, and the windows blue line. It's likeit 'forgets' how to load when it's first turned on - normal restarts work fine.

*scratches head*

I already did that, nothing was there - probably because it never got as far as windows itself.

Could be a heat issue. Open your pc up and blow out any dust. Also confirm that your heatsink is properly attached to the cpu.

Check for bad capacitors (this is very familiar behaviour for a motherboard with leaking caps (see below for description)
A bad stick of memory perhaps.
A failing power supply
A conflicting driver (have you installed updated or changed any drivers recently)
