I was wondering if there is any way to restart a failed backup. Say you forget to put a weekly tape in the drive and when you come back monday you notice it fails. Is there anyway to have it run on that monday morning? I've tried right clicking on the failed job, selecting "run" and all it does is start that days job, not the previous one like you would think.

Thank you for your help

I'm not sure how you have your jobs set up but you can reschedule the job to run on the day it was suppose to run (back date it) and it will pick up the run you want.

Or

Under the schedule tab, if you "use rotation scheme", there is an option "retry missed targets". Also, under quick start/server admin/admin/configuration/ there is an option to "submit makeup jobs on hold". By setting these two, your failed jobs will kick out makeup jobs on hold. The only things backed up in the makeup jobs are whatever is missed the first time. By putting it on hold, you can fix the problem, then release the job. The makeup job appends to your original tape, if it is still in the drive. Otherwise it will create a new tape. The makeup job is automatically set up the same as the original job that failed.

Hope this helps.....

Thank you for your help. I think that just might work for what I want to do. By the way I'm using the GFS system if that helps.

*Update*
Well I just got in touch with the tech support at CA. Seems once a job fails there is no way to restart that job.

hmmmm......I just came to work and had a failed job. I have a makeup job waiting for me but I chose to back date it since the whole job failed, not just a portion of it. It is running now with Sunday's date and schedule even though I started it on Monday....I deleted the makeup job.

We are running GFS rotation also so my reply from last week should work fine for you.

Good luck.
