What is the implications of restarting the xinetd service?
I change the ip of one of my network adapters and then i need to restart the xinetd service to make the changes effect. The adapters will shutdown ?

for a while.. just seconds....
if you want only to reset one adapter issue:

ifconfig ethX down
ifconfig ethX up

where ethX is your interface. all others eth cards will be untouched.

If you change the address of one of your adapters, that adapter will shut down for a few seconds then restart.

If you restart xinetd, the adapters will not shut down. xinetd is simply a daemon that uses network resources to provide network services.
