Restart numbering alters Style

I have a style definition that includes auto numbering of paragraphs.

Works great until I need to start a new numbered sequence.

I right click on the paragraph that I want to restart numbering at and select "Restart numbering".

The numbering restarts.

But doing this also changes the indents that are defined as part of the style.

I have successfully used this same method in other documents, and I have not intentionally done anything different, nor can I find anything different.

Why is restart numbering now altering my styles?

Well, it seems to explain why.

Unfortunately, that is different from helping.

Didn't mean to belittle your posting the link xlhelp.

I'm thankful to you for pointing me towards the explanation.

What I was getting at was that the following your link suggests several rather intensive work-arounds that have an unfavorable cost/value ratio to implement.

It seems the difference between what I was doing in the past and what I was attempting now was setting indents at something other than the "stock" ones associated by MS with pre-defined numbering.
