Part of my job includes putting together the company's schedule on Microsoft Project, I haven't had a problem using it except my boss wants to see the total of resources used at a given time, in this case its the total number of men working on construction jobs on those days.

Currently I print the schedule and then draw lines at the bottom and add up by hand how many men are working each time a job starts and stops.

is there an easier way to see the total number of men per day for all current jobs? Thanks!!!

OK, Try this:

1. Click on >View, >Resource Usage
2. Click in the upper left square (that is blank) above the ID column to "select all"
3. Click on the Show/Hide Assignments icon. This looks like one head with a green plus sign and a red minus sign. (probably a hidden icon if you have never used it before). This will colapse all the assignments and just show the Resource Names.
4. Click on >Window, >Split
5. Click anywhere in the bottom pane to make it active.
6. Click on >View, >Resource Graph
7. Right click in the timephased portion of the Resource Graph and click on Bar Styles.
8. Under Selected Resources, for Overallocated Resources, Show As, select Area. For Allocated Resources, Show As, select Area. For Proposed Booking, Show As, select Don't Show.
9. Under Resource, for Overallocated Resources, Show As, select Don't Show. For Allocated Resources, Show As, select Don't Show. For Proposed Booking, Show As, select Don't Show.
10. Still within this dialogue box, check the Show Availability Line box. (lower left)
11. Click on >Tools, >Options, Schedule Tab, for Show assignment units as: select Decimal.

You may need to Zoom Out to get the timephase portion at a scale that is more useful. (in other words by month instead of by day)

What you will end up with is a graph at the bottom of the screen that shows the count of Total Resources assigned to the project, Total resources needed per time period, and Total resources allocated by time period.

To see an example of what the end product (picture) will look like, try this link:

Hope this helps!
