Is there any way to configure WINS so that internal users can resolve a URL to an internal IP address?

We will shortly remove external access to two of our HTTP sites so that they can only be accessed internally. However, as all of our users have the domain name saved in their Internet Favourites, I need to direct them to the internal IP address instead of them sending a DNS lookup to the outside world.

I realise that editing their HOSTS files is one option, but it is rather time consuming.

Another option would be to simple mail them new URLs that simply contain the internal IP addresses of the HTTP servers. However, I would rather resolve it without the users seeing any change.

I don't have an internal DNS server, and don't plan to configure one. I do however have an internal WINS server up and running.

Our WINS system runs on Windows NT4, and someone advised me that I can configure WINS to resolve the domain names to the internal IP addresses. However, I don't see how this can be done. I can set up a static hostname (NETBIOS) to resolve to the internal IP addresses, but that is not what I require.

Is there any way to configure WINS so that internal users can resolve a URL to an internal IP address?

Distribute HOSTS files as part of the logon batch/script process.
