I've seen a scenario that I can't figure out. I was at a client such that when user's Outlook profiles are created, instead of entering an Exchange server's name, the internal domain name is entered, and when you click on "check name", it is able to resolve the domain name to the user's Exchange server. Any ideas how this was setup?

Exchange 2007 has an autoconfigure feature does that.

Active Directory is smart enough to know about the Exchange servers in the environment. You can enter a DC as the mail server and it will resolve to your Exchange server.
