Hello, our two old DNS servers are being replaced by two new DNS servers with different IP addresses. For our small hosts I have used smit to add the two new name servers and then used smit to remove the old ones. I went back and verified that the resolv.conf file had the correct entries. These small servers had a /etc/netsvc.conf file with local, bind4. It seems like all host entries were in in the local /etc/hosts file.
I'm now getting ready to change our mission critical servers. I was surprised that they have nothing but comments in their /etc/netsvc.conf. Without the local,bind4 will they still look to the local hosts file first and then look for the name servers in the resolv.conf file second? Also, can I make the resolv.conf changes during the day using smit with all users and applications up? I would add the two new DNS servers and then remove the old ones.
