Hi there
A basic question - I've designed a simple HTML site with a Flash5 alternative. I designed at my screen resolution of 1280x1024 and everything fits on screen - graphics and table. When reduced resolution is used the whole thing looks a mess with theneed to scroll. This makes sense but should one designat lower resolution and presumably this means reduces the dimensions of all the graphics?
i used % diomensions in the table but it still looks bad.
Any advice would be useful.
Thanks

I have been an instructor on HTML for the past two years, one recommendation that I make for each student is to design for 800 x 600 and using % instead of absolutes for tables and frames.

Just because you have a large monitor doesn't mean your end-user will have the same. You should design for the lower end users which typically don't change their monitor settings when they get them and they are around 800 x 600. If you have your site centered (table) it will always look good, if you have it positioned to the left, you will of course have white space on the right for anyone with a larger resolution but I would rather have that than to have to scroll from right to left when I hit a site.

Most designers I know would agree that 800 x 600 is the standard. There is a program you can download from called browsersizer or browsermaster which will allow you to see your site on various resolutions for both IE and NS which is also quite helpful because both don't show the same it will also show you the resolution for webTV.

Hope this helped.

I would like to recommend:
Receiver 1024x768
If the receiver has only 80x600
then the page should be accessible by vertical scroll ONLY.
This means: the page size (tables) is defined in pixels, not in percentage.
