Hi there,

I have a problem and am open to suggestions on how to resolve it. I have a Dell PowerEdge 2550 server, with 2 x 18gb and 2 x 36gb drives configured in RAID 1, 1 GB of memory, 2 x 1.13GHZ processors. The server is running Windows 2003 server standard and Exchange 2003 standard edition. It is not a DC, just exchange and the only one in our company. When I built the server I foolishly only created a 4 gb system partition and left 13gb partition for exchange on one channel on the other channel I have all 36gb for my information stores. Now I am finding that I am pressed for space (only 600mb left and that is after using disk cleanup to compress files) on my system partition. I want to install a spam filter and at the very least it will take 200mb of space. I am worried about moving one of my swap files off the C drive, which would allow another 1gb of space, but worry about what would happen if I did this. Have been looking for 3rd party solutions to resize my partitions but nothing seems to be available that will work with hardware raid. I can easily take up to 5gb from my exchange partition if I was able to resize the partitions but after looking at was available out there it does not appear possible without extreme risk.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this, keeping in mind that this is our only exchange server and it is absolutely critical that nothing bad happens to it.

Thanks,

Try this

I've never had an issue with repartitioning on hardware RAID on Compaq. Although Windows 2000 apparently doesn't like it if you resize the RAID array itself. You get quite a few warnings about it from the Compaq RAID util if you try it.
