In previous versions of Photoshop (currently using CS) I was able to resize my large vector files in the opening screen, original size would be 22x28, which too big to e-mail, wanting to make a smaller proof, now my only options are the resolution size. Does anyone know another option/way to open/import files to resize them?

Thanks

hi acevans!

...sounds like u are trying to import a illustrator document (.ai) file...

...you can try saving them as eps first and then rasterize them in photoshop, the different options will then be available to resize...

all the best,
andrew

Do you know why they aren't available anymore for pdfs or ais?

hi acevans!!

...no sorry, can't help with that question, adobe are always tinkering with their software codes, does seem odd i agree, but i guess adobe have taken the view that it wasn't worth keeping for whatever reason, if you can simply take a quick trip into the image size dialogue afterwards no need for the option beforehand...

...small annoyance is the result of this, perhaps they overlooked it and will do something about it in CS3...

...in the meantime, i hope the workaround above will suffice your needs...

...with the pdfs you can eps those prior to import too, the only argument is which method is quicker, this of course will depend on artwork complexity...

all the best

If you use the Open command in Photoshop and select an AI file, the format should read Generic pdf. If you select open you'll get the screen that allows you to change the size and set the dpi.

Thanks apepp.

Sorry JMGalvin. I'm on a PC using photoshop CS and that is no longer an option. In previous versions yes.

...thats, right, no option for generic pdf on my mac running cs2...

Wierd I'm on CS - all Creative Suite and it's there. Try going to AI prefs and use pdf for the clipboard.

Seems odd that this would only work on Mac.

Any idea jmgalvin what the possible preference would be?

'cause I'm gettin the same results for ai files and pdf files, but it does work like it used to with eps files.

File handling and clipboard pref. Not saying that'll do it, but I di use the PS Open command (from File menu) and selected an .AI image - a logo I did in AI CS - as a test. The next screen, with All readable Documents enabled selected, automatically had pdf as the selected format in the scrilling menu at the bottom when I cl;icked the .AI file.

Next screen was Rasterize generic pdf format and gives you the size options and resolution option as well as color mode (recognizing the embedded swop2 profile).

If i go to that file, or any AI, in Finder and right click to get the menu with "Open With' and choose Photoshop CS, I get that same Rasterize generic pdf screen with the size, resolution, mode. NOTE - the file I'm choosing is NOT a pdf. The photoshop open window is doing this.
