resizing an image on upload

I need to allow a user to upload an image and then automatically resize it to no larger than 300 x 225.

I've found several methods of doing this but all require "GD library" to be installed on the host. Which the hosts are at the moment unwilling to do.

is there another way to do this?

The only way to manipulate an image using PHP's functions is through the use of the GD library.

You could see, I suppose, whether your hosting company has ImageMagick installed. You can invoke ImageMagick as an external application from within PHP.
