Hi,

i have an oracle database which resides on a HP-UX 9000 version 11.0 OS.

one of my data files is 2000mb and is 96% full. I have been trying to resize the datafile to 2200mb but cannot as there seems to be a limit on the size of files on the unix server.

is there a way of removing this limit?

Joe

Joey, try Thread51-790707

Always remember the keyword search on here - I got this using a search for 2 Gb

Hope this helps.

thanks ken,

one question, does it require a rebot after the change?

Joey - not as far as I can tell. I guess you'll soon find out if it does!!

KEN.

i think it needs to be done when the mounted volume is not being used as when i tried it i got a message saying to retry when the volume is not busy

Joe

I guess that makes sense. Do you know who's using it, and can you get whoever it is off for a while? Are you sure it's not yourself who's making the filesystem busy - ie are you in the filesystem when issuing the command? If not, my best bet would be to shutdown Oracle and take it from there (assuming this is possible in your case - if not, you'll need to schedule a window for downtime). Cheers.

Joey - check if your system have OnlineJFS installed (version 11i is a default) if you do; man fsadm

PS: don't forget to update the filesystem in /etc/fstab with 'largefiles' after.

OnlineJFS is not a pre-requisite to fix the 2GB limitation:
- unmount the filesystem (not necessary with onlineJFS)
- run 'fsadm -o largefiles /dev/vgXX/rlvolX'
- remount the filesystem.

If you run:
mkfs -m /dev/vgXX/rlvolX
it will should nolargefiles or largefiles - depending on wether there is a 2GB limitat in place or not - mkfs and newfs do not automatically set largefiles.
